If you have an injured employee, our experienced physiotherapists can help fast-track their recovery and return to work (RTW). Our team conducts a comprehensive assessment of the employee’s condition, develops a tailored treatment plan, and works closely with their treating practitioners, rehabilitation providers, and your insurer to ensure coordinated care and optimal outcomes.

Many workplace injuries fail to progress as expected due to psychosocial factors, inappropriate treatment plans, or delays in escalation to the correct specialist or practitioner. Our physiotherapists are trained to identify barriers to recovery, including physical limitations, workplace challenges, and external factors that may be hindering progress. By addressing these issues early, we help your employee return to work safely and efficiently.

During the assessment, we evaluate the employee’s functional capabilities and the physical demands of their role. We can identify tasks or duties that may be suitable for your worker to perform, even if full recovery has not yet occurred. This allows for modified or transitional duties, helping maintain productivity while supporting safe return-to-work practices.

Our service is mobile and available across New South Wales, including Sydney, Western Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Central Coast, and regional towns such as Orange, Griffith, Tamworth, Dubbo, and Wagga Wagga. By providing on-site assessments, we reduce downtime and ensure your employees are evaluated in a familiar environment, making the process more efficient and less stressful.

By choosing our physiotherapy functional assessments, your business benefits from comprehensive evaluation of injury and recovery progress, identification of barriers to recover, coordination with insurers and treating practitioners and safe return-to-work recommendations and transitional duty planning. Our goal is to support both the employee and your business, helping injured workers recover safely, reduce the risk of re-injury, and maintain compliance with workplace health and safety regulations. With our expertise, you can improve employee outcomes, workplace productivity, and rehabilitation efficiency.

Partner with us for professional physiotherapy functional assessments that streamline recovery, enhance return-to-work success, and ensure your workforce stays safe, healthy, and productive.

  • A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a comprehensive assessment performed by a physiotherapist to determine an injured worker’s physical abilities and limitations. It evaluates strength, mobility, endurance, and ability to perform work-related tasks safely.

  • An FCE helps guide safe return-to-work decisions by:

    • Identifying what duties an injured worker can safely perform

    • Determining physical restrictions and tolerances

    • Supporting rehabilitation and recovery planning

    • Providing objective information for employers, insurers, and doctors

  • An FCE may be requested by:

    • Treating doctors (GPs or specialists)

    • Employers

    • Insurance companies (e.g. workers compensation)

    • Rehabilitation providers

  • The assessment typically includes:

    • Review of medical and work history

    • Physical testing (strength, flexibility, endurance)

    • Functional task simulation (e.g. lifting, carrying, bending)

    • Postural and movement analysis

The physiotherapist ensures all testing is safe and appropriate to your injury.

  • An FCE usually takes between 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the injury and job requirements.

  • A detailed report is provided outlining:

    • Your current functional capacity

    • Work restrictions and recommendations

    • Suitable duties or return-to-work options

    • Rehabilitation recommendations if needed

This report is shared with the referring party (e.g. doctor, employer, insurer).

  • The FCE helps determine your readiness for work. You may be cleared for:

    • Full duties

    • Modified or light duties

    • Graduated return to work
